Today…
Smiling is a rare sight
In a world where the sun is not so bright
And yet
I am expected to
Follow an apparatus of mediocrity
As I listen to the "promises of democracy:
& live the Dream of America.
I walk upon the sidewalks of "time"
Where there was once a "solid rock of brotherhood."
And they were the ones who made this
Life possible, they the revolutionaries.
Blood, sweat, and tears have gone
Into these sidewalks of "time"
But no one stops to appreciate
Or see that.
Instead,
We continue on our walk to work,
Or home, or wherever we are going
Without even glancing at the "time
And we then huddle in our
Cubicles of weakness & comfort.
