So...
I haven't blogged in quite some time, I have been incredibly busy pursuing my degree in geology at Fort Lewis College as well as taking time away from all this technological crap to live my life that I have created here in Colorado with my family, friends, and bestfriend/boyfriend Kirk.
I am now a junior in the Environmental Geology department and I am beginning my research over the brand new field of medical geology. It is all so exciting and I can't wait to share my ideas at the European Geosciences Assembly next spring!
Originally what I had planned as a career path was to be a photojournalist because I have a strong eye and hand for a story. My thoughts were, why would I do something that I am already good at, why not learn a new skill that breaks my comfort bubble? So that's why I chose to study a totally badass subject like geology. Geology allowed my intelligence to shine in a way I never allowed it to shine, I use to cloud my intelligence in fear that it made me unattractive. Well watch out boys, this bitch will give you a run for your money.
One of my favorite things to do is to leave a guy totally dumbfounded after having a conversation with me and all they are left with saying to me is, "I never thought of it like that," followed with an awkward silence. K.D. Cox strikes again!
;)
Don't take me as a conceded person with an ego that is as big as the Trondjhemite intrusion that goes through Norway because that is not the case at all. I am just in love with myself, totally different thing...think about it.
Anyways,
now that I am on summer break I plan on doing a back packing trip through Chicago Basin with my boyfriend and going on four wheeling trips in the FJ Cruiser with friends to excavate old mines for sweet mineral samples!!
Speaking of sweet mineral samples, I recently was able to go to Hawaii and study volcanoes and of course I brought back some exccellent olivine sample. Now I am aware that the Godess Pele will bring bad luck to anyone who removes anything from the island, but I sacrificed a bottle of whiskey to the Goddess and I looked that Goddess right in the eye as we took shots together....so I'm good!
I was on the island when the earthquake in Japan triggered which made the trip even more exciting (my positive thoughts do go out to the vicitims that were involved in that natural disaster but as a geologist I think it's the coolest friggin' thing in the world) because I experienced an earthquake and a tsunami which caused a lot of damage in Kona (but not in Volcano Village, which is where I was at the time of the tsunnami but I was on my way to Kona where I saw all the damage afterwards). I learned so much on that trip about volcanicsa as well as driving forces of plate tectonics and all I can say is....AMAZING!
I am hope to go on many more adventures like that one in the future.
Speaking of the future,
I plan to attend the University of Wellington in New Zealand for my M.S. in Petroleaum Geology (and you were beginning to think I was crazy for choosing a geology degree...think again=$$$$$). Then I may get my Ph.D in Geothermal energy (are you catching onto my plan now?).
But all of this is just an idea, a dream right now. I will achieve this but not anytime soon and after I make my everlasting contributions to science THEN I will be a photojournalist for National Geographic like I promised my junior high photography teacher that I would.
Instead of taking the starving artist approach to getting where I intitally wanted to go in life, I am taking a much more fufilling route where I get to travel the world and contribute to the world WHILE making big money.
Oh wow....let that soak in for you....it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
Me, I just thank the Universe and say GO!
It's a wobbly world of limbo out there,
but how do you know when you are limbo versus reality?
Till next time.
My Love to You,
Miss K.D.
